Instead of instilling in girls and women the need to alter their behavior in order to ensure their own safety, we as a culture should be teaching boys and men to respect the personal boundaries and bodily autonomy of every person they encounter, no matter what. It's insane the lessons dudes don't typically have to think about that so many women rely on to maintain a sense of safety as they move about the world. Preventing harassment and sexual assault is not the responsibility of the target of it, and we need to work to change a culture that lets people off the hook for abusive behavior because of bullshit gendered expectations and allowances. Call out your bros.
